Growth

Making a decision to become a Christian and start following Jesus is one of the most important decisions you’ll make in life. However, making a decision to start following Jesus isn’t the destination, it’s really just the beginning of a lifelong process. God’s desire is that we would grow daily and make choices to become more like Jesus in our thoughts and actions.

Following Jesus isn’t usually a linear process. You don’t just complete a series of classes or fill out a set of workbooks and arrive at a destination; it’s a journey that often looks different for each person. However, we have identified several classes that will get you started in the right direction. Check out the baseball field diagram below. The diagram outlines a suggested path of travel but you may customize it to fit your personal needs and interests. Let God lead you as you make the effort to grow closer to Him.

Sunday Services — One of the most common ways people are introduced to Westlake Church is through one of our two identical weekend services. Each service lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes. In the Sunday service you will find a full band and praise team leading the congregation in singing contemporary music that is uplifting and inspiring. Another aspect of the Sunday service is the teaching time where one of our pastors will teach a message from the Bible that can be inspiring, challenging and applicable to your life.

Connect — “Welcome to Westlake” — We do not have formal church membership at Westlake. We believe that if you are a follower of Jesus then you are a member of our church. “Welcome to Westlake” is the closest thing we have to a membership class. We offer this luncheon three times a year after church on a Sunday afternoon. In “Welcome to Westlake” you will have the opportunity to meet the staff, other new people, and learn more about the beliefs, purpose, vision, and structure of Westlake Church.

Groups — As our Sunday services grow larger it is also important for us to grow smaller. The way we do that is through community groups. We value our time together in Sunday services, however, those services take place in rows. We have discovered that sitting in rows on Sunday mornings isn’t the best way to connect with God and others. Sustained spiritual growth best takes place in the circles of smaller community groups. When it comes to spiritual growth we believe that circles are better than rows.

Grow — “Roots” — In “Roots” you will be given the practical tools you need for personal spiritual growth. You will learn some myths and truths about spiritual growth as well as spiritual disciplines such as prayer and Bible study. This three week class is offered three times a year.

Serve — “SHAPE” — It is God’s desire that as we follow Jesus we look for opportunities to serve others. In “SHAPE” you will discover how God has uniquely wired you to serve in ministry. This class will look at Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences and how they impact what kind of ministry you should be involved in. This three week class is offered three times a year.

Engage — “Contagious Christian” — Not only has God rescued us from sin and death but He has invited us to help Him rescue others. In this class you will be equipped with motivation, knowledge, and confidence to engage a spiritually lost and hurting world through personal evangelism. This six week class is offered once or twice a year.

Multiply — We were created to be in relationship with God and to grow in our relationship with God. This in depth study was created by Francis Chan to be used in a one-on-one environment or a very small group of people (3-4 people). Participants meet according to their schedules to discuss and study the book and the Bible. Jesus wants us to be followers who make more followers. Contact Pastor Craig if you would like to find a partner or group to take this 24 week journey with.
